I’ve connected with some truly wonderful partners in the Longmont birth community recently. I’ve been lucky enough in the last couple months to sit down with Suzan Fleck, an acupuncturist and local business owner. Her philosophy when it comes to birth really jives with my own and I felt so comfortable in her presence. Here’s what Suzan had to say:
Introduce yourself! Who are you, and what do you practice?
Hello! My name is Suzan Fleck and I am licensed acupuncturist and clinical herbalist. I integrate Chinese medicine, herbs and acupuncture with Japanese medical massage, orthopedic massage and visceral work to provide my clients with a comprehensive approach to their healthcare. While I do have a general practice, I find that many of my clients are women of all ages. My relationship with my clients often starts pre-pregnancy and spans to menopause and beyond. Working with pregnant women is one of the most fulfilling and joyful aspects of my practice.
How did you enter the birth world? What inspires your practice?
I entered the birth world first as an intern at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco. While doing my intern grand rounds in my last two years of school, I found that working with gynecological issues and educating women about their bodies was something I truly enjoyed.
I draw some of my most profound inspiration from my daughter. The journey of pregnancy to birth and into motherhood has been a wild ride of unexpected experiences both delightful and challenging. Teaching about the wonders of how the body works and how it communicates its needs is something I have sought to do with clients for the last two decades of my practice. I enjoy sharing the lens of Chinese medicine as a means of self-care, self-awareness and cultivating a happy life.

Each of our Our services span from traditional Western medical care to energy work, like craniosacral therapy. We currently have a primary care provider who specializes in women’s medicine, grief counseling, brainspotting, biodynamic craniosacral therapy, EMDR, play therapy, Chinese medicine, wilderness therapy, addiction recovery counseling, rolfing and therapeutic massage.
Tell us about a celebrated moment for you in your practice?
You asked about a celebrated moment in my practice…most days, that is the day I am living. I feel blessed every day that I get to work with and for such kind, good people. My work is incredibly satisfying. To be included in the newborn’s email when parents announce the birth is always so touching. To have clients come in and tell me that they have waited all week to come in for acupuncture is just an amazing and heartful experience. I couldn’t really ask for more.
